A Safe Place

Do you need a safe place, a place where you can center your soul?  Where do you run to when the sorrows of life become unbearable? A human being cannot be the answer.  What ultimately steadies and comforts you cannot be part of you; it must be divine.  The focus of your hope should be on something external, like an anchor is to a ship, so that it will take your gaze off of what is before you.  Your anchor must be resilient, tried and tested, and free of imperfections in order that the shank of the anchor won’t break under great pressure.  On the other hand, it cannot be too light for the vessel or it will drag.  You need to be able to trust it.  It must be real, it must be dependable and it needs to be available at all times.

Allow me to be your stabilizing force.  Let me be the anchor of your soul and I will keep you in harmony with my Truth and with yourself during great trials and weakness.   Heartaches and difficulties will be easier to handle, temptations will lose their power, mundane responsibilities will become less frustrating and challenging tasks will become lighter.  When an anchor is fixed, deep under the waters, it’s invisible but you know it’s there.  Worldly knowledge and worldly goods can’t anchor your soul or offer you true contentment, only I can do that.  When the waves of life are crashing down on you, hold onto me.

It’s impossible to be shipwrecked when you make me the anchor of your soul.  The cable that joins us together is alive and transmits supernatural power, grace, calmness and an overcoming spirit.  What flows through it transcends time and space and the perimeters of this galaxy.  It reaches into the heavens, into a world that is immutable and where losing grasp or hopelessness is impossible.   When your anchor holds, you are safe.

Bible Passages

We have this anchor for the soul, firm and secure.  It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.  (Heb. 6:19) CSB

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.  (Eph. 1:18) NLT
